Culminating Blog Reflection:
Throughout the course of my Capstone project I used various skills to help guide me through the process. I used critical throughout the research portion to absorb the information the best I could in order to maintain it for as long as possible. In addition to using critical thinking I used my communication skills. The information I was learning was pretty difficult to grasp so I frequently asked my mentor to help clarify information. The last two skills I incorporated with my project were collaboration and creativity. My mentor and I had discussions about how we would treat and help patients recover from their injuries.
After completing the project I noticed that I was more comfortable in the work place. I became a better communicator and was able to ask questions without hesitation. I found that I was able to take directions easily as well as learn from constructive criticism. I definitely gained more knowledge about this profession as well as how to run your own business which was rewarding because this is a profession I'm interested in pursuing. Lastly, I finished my Capstone project with more increase than I began with which was satisfying.
One of the challenges I faced was balancing my time efficiently between soccer, school, work and my project. Fortunately, I was able to over come this challenge by taking the time to make a schedule which allowed me to succeed in all four aspects. Another challenge I experienced was absorbing the information. Since this was something I am interested in pursuing I wanted to gain more knowledge and maintain it. This was difficulty since a lot of the information is difficult already. Luckily, my mentor clarified a lot of my misunderstandings which helped.

The Tenth Job: May 8, 2014
This was the last day I visited my mentor and completed some hours. It wasn't a very long session because I just had to pick up my mentor evaluation. However, I was able to help my mentor finish some of the Christmas cards. To finish off my meeting I thanked him for giving me the opportunity to learn under his guidance. I feel like I developed as an academic individual and increased my own personal knowledge along the way.

The Ninth Job: May 5, 2014
This portion of my project took place at my house. My mentor asked me to search up the guidelines when dealing with concussions. I learned that are classified by three levels. Level one is minor with no loss of consciousness while level three is more severe with a loss of consciousness for at least five seconds. If someone receives a level three concussion they should be sidelined from any type of activities for at least a month. I also did some research on what some concussion symptoms are like: prolonged headache, vision disturbances, dizziness, nausea or vomiting. I did a lot of research which helped me move on with my project and presentation. All of this information also increased my own personal knowledge and helped me determine if this was a profession that I wanted to pursue.

The Eighth Job: May 3, 2014
When I arrived to the office my mentor was with one of his patients so I began organizing some of his patient files. Once he finished up with his patient he sat down and asked me if I had any questions. I told him that I didn't have any questions; however, I told him that I noticed his procedure while taking a look at his patients. He told me that in order to run your own business you have to stay organized and on top of things. My mentor then took me to the one of the rooms and let me try the machine that controls your nerves. It was a weird yet interesting and exciting experience. I had no control of my nerves and my hand began moving in the weirdest directions. I then realized what everyone was feeling when they were hooked up to the machine.

The Seventh Job: May 3, 2014
When I arrived at my mentor's office we just talked about the information I looked up while also giving me more information that was useful for the project. After we had our discussion he had to treat a patient and I was lucky enough to sit in on the appointment. My mentor takes his time and goes through his notes thoroughly while taking care of his patients. He asks his patients where they feel discomfort and pain hoping his treatment can cause the relief. After asking his patients several questions and massaging the effected areas he hooks them up to a machine that controls the nerves and places a warm blanket over them to try and soothe the pain and discomfort. After the patient leaves he tells me how they were injured and how he planned to treat their injury. Once my mentor is done explaining this process to me I continue to work on the Christmas cards.

The Fifth Job: May 1, 2014
This portion of my hours took place at home while I was trying to research what Dr. Cheng asked me to. Upon my research this is what I concluded: Well to begin with, doctors is a broad term because there are all kinds of doctors. Most doctors have their own speciality and so their knowledgeable in that specific area of study. There's also physical therapists who treat their patients based on a previous doctor's diagnosis. After physical therapists theres's chiropractors who have the capability to diagnose and make treatment options as they see fit. This is what my mentor, Dr. Cheng has the responsibility to do. My mentor has a really cool job and I am still interested because he specializes in sports injuries which really elicits a sense of excitement because sports have always played a role in my life.

The Fourth Job: May 1, 2014
This meeting we primarily talked about the different types of doctors and physicians that can diagnose and treat patients. For example, physical therapists are not able to make decisions and diagnose injuries. They are the ones who perform treatment; however, they are treatments orders given by the doctors. This discouraged me a bit because I want the opportunity to observe and injury and based on that make an accurate diagnosis and set up a treatment process. My mentor asked me to go online that night and research the various types of doctors or physicians. After talking I was able to sit in another treatment session. I noticed that my mentor is very thorough with his work. He has a lot of information in all of his patient's files which shows that he aware of his responsibility. During my free time I continue to sort through christmas cards.
